We have an inborn aversion to authority. We could probably substitute the word “sinful” for “inborn.” Ever since the Serpent said to Eve, “Did God really say . . . ?” we humans have resisted authority in our lives. And, our American culture not only defends that resistance to authority, but also celebrates it. “Be your own person! Determine what’s right for you.
